The whole value of a water-soluble laundry bag is that it is never opened. Contaminated linen goes in at the bedside, the bag goes into the machine sealed, and the film dissolves during the wash. Nobody touches the contents again.
What a water-soluble laundry bag does
A water-soluble laundry bag is a PVA bag used to collect and transport linen — in hospitals, care homes, laboratories and anywhere contaminated textiles have to be moved. The bag is filled at the point of use and closed. It then goes directly into the washing machine without being opened. The film dissolves in the wash cycle and the linen is released into the drum.
That single change removes the step where staff would otherwise open a bag of contaminated linen and handle it by hand. It also removes the bag itself from the waste stream, because there is no bag left to dispose of.
Where they are used
- Hospital wards and theatres — collection of used linen and theatre textiles.
- Care homes and clinics — where handling contaminated textiles is an infection risk.
- Laboratories and cleanrooms — controlled removal of contaminated textile waste.
- Commercial laundry operations — sealed-in, sealed-out processing for infection-control clients.
What we make
| Specification | What we supply |

| Format | Flat bags, or rolls and pre-cut packs for dispensing |
What to specify when you enquire
Laundry bags are specified against the wash cycle and the load
- Wash temperature and the cycle the bag has to survive
- Wet and dry load weight the bag will carry
- Bag dimensions and the volume you collect
- How the bag is closed — tape, tie, heat seal or a closure built into the bag
- Print requirement — instructions, department coding, branding
- Target quantity
Why wash temperature is the deciding number
A laundry bag has two demands that pull in opposite directions. It has to be strong enough to carry wet linen without splitting on the way to the machine, and it has to dissolve completely in the wash so nothing is left in the drum or on the textiles.
The film grade is set by the wash temperature. A hot-water film rated for 70 °C and above dissolves in a standard thermal disinfection cycle. If your process runs cooler, the film has to be specified for that instead — a hot-water film in a cool wash is a bag that comes out of the machine still intact.
Common mistakes
- Matching the film to the wrong wash temperature. The most common failure, and it is visible immediately — the bag survives the cycle.
- Under-specifying thickness. A bag that splits on the way to the machine defeats the whole purpose of the system.
- Forgetting the closure. How the bag is closed at the point of use affects both the bag design and the film.
- Skipping the wash trial. The only meaningful test is your machine, your cycle and your linen load.
How ordering works
Send your wash cycle, load weight and bag dimensions. We reply within one business day with a film recommendation and a sample plan. You run the samples through your own machine with a real load. Bulk production starts only when the bag performs as agreed.

Quick answers
The questions buyers ask most about this application.
What film grade is used for hospital laundry bags?
Hot-water PVA film, rated 70 °C and above, matched to the wash temperature and cycle your machine runs. A hot-water film used in a cooler wash will come out of the machine intact instead of dissolving.
Will the bag survive carrying wet linen?
Film thickness is set against the wet and dry load weight the bag has to carry, so the bag holds on the journey to the machine and then dissolves in the wash. Both are confirmed during sampling.
Does the bag work with our existing closure method?
The bag is designed around how your staff close it at the point of collection — tape, tie, heat seal or an integrated closure. Tell us the method and we match the bag design to it.
Can the bags be printed?
Yes. Bags can be printed with handling instructions, department codes or your branding, which also helps with segregation at the point of collection.
What quantity do I need to order?
It depends on bag size and film thickness. Send your target quantity with the enquiry and we confirm the exact minimum, unit price and lead time in the written quote.
