Custom printed film

Printing turns a plain dissolving film into a branded pack. It also changes the film. Ink coverage, the printed area and where the print sits all affect how the film seals and how it dissolves — which is why printing is a specification, not an afterthought.

Water-soluble film printed with hazard pictograms
Printing on water-soluble film has to respect the film's behaviour — ink coverage, area and artwork all affect how the pack dissolves.

What custom printing adds

Custom printed film carries your brand, product name, usage information and — where the product requires it — hazard pictograms and regulatory marks. The print is applied to the water-soluble film itself, so the information is part of the pack and dissolves with it.

For most customers, printing is what turns a functional dissolving pack into something they can put on a shelf. It also lets the film carry the instructions and safety information that would otherwise need a separate label.

Where printed film is used

  • Branded detergent and cleaning packs — product name and branding printed on the film.
  • Agrochemical and industrial packs — hazard pictograms, active identification and required text.
  • Retail sachets and small-format packs — where the film is the label.
  • Film supplied in rolls — print registered to your machine so the artwork lands in the right place on every pack.

What to specify when you enquire

Print projects need the artwork and the pack layout together

  • Artwork files, and the colour requirement
  • Which parts of the pack the print must land on
  • Any regulatory or hazard text the market requires
  • The film grade and the dissolving behaviour the pack has to hit
  • Whether you need printed rolls for your machine or finished printed packs
  • Target quantity and destination market

Why print coverage matters

Water-soluble film dissolves through its surface. Ink sits on that surface and, depending on the ink and the coverage, can slow dissolving down. Heavy coverage over a large area of a small pack behaves differently from a small logo.

There is also a mechanical side: printed film still has to seal, and print in the seal area can interfere with seal strength. Both of these are settled by getting the artwork and the pack layout in front of us early, rather than after the pack dimensions have been frozen.

Common mistakes

  • Designing the artwork before the pack size. Print that does not fit the finished pack is the most common cause of a reprint.
  • Maximising ink coverage for shelf impact. Coverage works against dissolving speed, and the trade-off has to be chosen deliberately.
  • Putting print in the seal area. A logo in the wrong place can weaken the seal.
  • Leaving hazard text until last. Regulatory wording has to be planned into the layout, not squeezed in.

How ordering works

Send your artwork, the pack layout and the film grade you need. We reply within one business day with a print assessment, a film recommendation and a sample plan. You check the printed sample on your own line. Bulk production starts only when the printed pack performs as agreed.

Quick answers

The questions buyers ask most about this application.

Can water-soluble film be printed with our artwork?

Yes. Printed PVA film is supplied to your artwork, with print coverage and position agreed against the dissolving behaviour the pack has to hit. Both printed rolls and finished printed packs are available.

Does printing affect how the film dissolves?

It can. Ink sits on the dissolving surface, so heavy coverage over a large area can slow dissolving down. That trade-off is set deliberately during sampling rather than discovered after a bulk order.

Can hazard pictograms be printed on the film?

Yes. Hazard pictograms and required regulatory text are printed as part of the artwork for agrochemical and industrial packs. Plan the wording into the layout early, because it affects the printable area and the pack dimensions.

Can you supply printed film in rolls for our own machine?

Yes. Printed film is supplied in rolls with registration matched to your machine, as well as in finished printed bags and pouches.

What is the minimum order quantity for printed film?

It depends on the pack size, the film grade and the print setup required. Send your target quantity with the enquiry and we confirm the exact minimum, unit price and lead time in the written quote.
