PVA mesh, net & string for fishing

PVA mesh is not a PVA bag. It is a knitted water-soluble tube on a spool, filled on the bank with pellets, boilies or groundbait, tied off and cast — the mesh dissolves in the water and leaves the bait in one tight pile. We make the stocking tube, the netting and the PVA string that goes with them, in cold-water grade for lakes, rivers and sea.

PVA mesh, net and bag — three different products

Buyers often send one enquiry for "PVA fishing products" and expect one price. They are three separate products, made from different materials on different lines, and they are quoted separately:

ProductWhat it isHow the angler uses it
PVA bagFlat cold-water film, sealed into a bag or pouchBought pre-formed, filled with bait, hooked and cast as a single parcel
PVA mesh stockingKnitted water-soluble tube, on a spool (refill) or in a dispenserCut to length on the bank, filled with bait, tied off at both ends
PVA nettingCoarser knitted water-soluble net, lower stretch and more openWrapped around larger bait balls or particle mixes, or used for sticks
PVA stringFine water-soluble thread on a spoolTies baits, sticks and stringers together, or closes a mesh parcel

This page covers the mesh, netting and string. If you need the flat bags, they are on the PVA bags for fishing page instead — the film, the sizes and the sampling process are different.

What we make

Water-soluble PVA mesh tube stretched open showing the knit structure

PVA mesh stocking

Fine knit tube, supplied on 5 m spools as refills or in retail dispensers. Cuts cleanly, ties with a simple knot and holds pellets, boilies and groundbait.

Bait ball wrapped in water-soluble PVA mesh ready to cast

PVA netting

More open, coarser knit with a lower stretch for wrapping bigger bait parcels and particle mixes that need a longer hold before release.

Spool of water-soluble PVA string for tying bait parcels

PVA string

Fine water-soluble thread on a clear spool, for tying sticks, stringers and parcels closed. Dissolves with the rest of the rig, leaves nothing behind.

How it is used on the bank

Corn and pellets loaded into PVA mesh tubes, tied into a bait string
Mesh filled with corn and particles and tied into a string — the classic particle presentation.
Water-soluble PVA mesh parcels being filled on the bank and cast into the lake
On the bank: cut the tube, fill it, tie both ends, hook the parcel and cast. The mesh dissolves and the bait stays where it landed.
  1. Cut — cut the tube longer than the bait you are loading, leaving enough to tie.
  2. Fill — load dry pellets, boilies, corn or groundbait; pack it tight so the parcel casts straight.
  3. Tie — knot both ends, or close one end with PVA string.
  4. Hook and cast — hook into the knot, cast, and the mesh dissolves in the water.

Dry or lightly damped bait is what mesh is designed for. Oily or wet bait attacks the mesh from the inside, so if you sell to anglers who fish with oily pellets, tell us at the enquiry stage — the grade has to be adjusted for it.

What to specify when you enquire

Send us these and we can quote precisely

  • The form — mesh stocking, netting or string
  • Tube width (25/37/44/60 mm) or thread size, and spool length
  • Mesh grade — fine for pellets and groundbait, or coarse for larger parcels
  • What goes inside it, and whether the bait is dry, damp or oily
  • How fast it needs to dissolve, and the water temperature it is used in
  • Print, spool label and retail packing requirement
  • Target quantity per size, and how you sell it — refill spools or retail packs

Common mistakes in PVA mesh sourcing

  • Quoting mesh against bag film. The mesh knit and the flat film are different materials; a bag price is not a mesh price.
  • Ordering one width for every market. 37 mm and 44 mm dominate in some markets and 25 mm in others — order per size, not as one line.
  • Ignoring the spool and the pack. Refill spools, dispensers and retail cards change the unit cost more than the mesh itself.
  • Not testing on the cast. A knit that dissolves perfectly can still burst on a hard cast. Sample first, in your own conditions.
  • Untested oily bait. Oil and moisture weaken the knit; the grade has to be specified for it up front.

How ordering works

Send your spec. We reply within 24 hours with the mesh grade, the sample plan and the timing. You test the samples on your own bait and in your own water. When the mesh performs, we move to bulk production, quality check and shipping — with the retail pack produced alongside the mesh if you need it.

Quick answers

The questions buyers ask most about PVA mesh and netting.

Is PVA mesh the same product as a PVA bag?

No. A PVA bag is flat film sealed into a bag or pouch. PVA mesh is a knitted water-soluble tube, sold on a spool as stocking or as netting, and it is filled on the bank rather than bought pre-filled. They are made on different lines from different film and mesh grades, and they are quoted separately.

What tube widths and spool lengths do you make?

25 mm, 37 mm, 44 mm and 60 mm flat tube width on 5 m spools are our standard sizes. Other widths, other spool lengths and bulk rolls are made to order — send the width and the metres per spool you sell and we quote against that.

How fast does PVA mesh dissolve?

It depends on the mesh grade and the water temperature on the day. The knit is open, so water reaches the bait quickly; the exact dissolving time is tuned at sampling to your requirement — fast for a quick release, slower where the mesh has to survive the cast and the descent.

Can we buy mesh, netting and string together with our own retail packaging?

Yes. Mesh stocking, netting, string and the retail pack can be supplied under your brand — unprinted, or printed with your logo, spool label and pack design. Send your artwork or ask us to quote plain first.

What do you need to quote PVA mesh?

The mesh form (stocking tube, netting or string), the tube width or thread size, the spool length, whether the bait is dry or oily, the print and packing requirement, and your target quantity. With those we confirm film and mesh grade, unit price and lead time in a written quote.
